Love Is

Love is
Seeing your face in a fresh morning light
A bowl and two spoons with Angel Delight
Knowing there’s days when we kiss and don’t fight
Love is

Love is
Carving our names in the heart of the oak
You, adjusting my tie, so I don’t choke
Sprinting like Usain through bonfire smoke
Love is

Love is
Holding hands under dim lit gazebos
With our last fiver, dining Al Fresco
At a school dance, the Pogo not Disco
Love is

Love is
Snoring together in front of the telly
Tickling my toes, whilst reciting from Shelley
On the A40, giving it welly
Love is

Love is
Albums and photos, we’ve still yet to see
Pebbles at Brighton, tide up to our knees
Fish and chip headlines, for you and for me
Love is

  1. What a lovely and witty poem, Davy. You’ve captured love at its brightest and most vulnerable points. Made me smile and sigh – love is so much more than we give it credit for. Beautifully penned! 🙂

  2. Oh, WOW, Davy! I adore this poem; it’s just gorgeous and totally relatable. I love the line about the Angel Delight. That brought back happy memories of the time when I used to make this for my children. Butterscotch flavour, topped with banana or tangerine pieces, was their favourite. Yum. Also, that wow was for the excellent biography for your book, which sounds very inviting. I had no idea you had so much experience in so many careers, including the police force in London. That takes a lot of guts and hard work. My next-door neighbour’s son is in the police force, not the Metropolitan Police, but up in Hertfordshire. I can see you’ve had a wealth of subjects, experiences and ideas to write about. Many congratulations on your new book, too. That’s quite some achievement 👏. Well done. I’m very impressed 😊.

    1. Thank you for your kind and supportive words, Ellie, they are deeply appreciated. My mouth is watering at the thought of Butterscotch Angel Delight. I had forgotten it came in that flavour. The addition of banana takes the dish to another level. Cold custard and banana is still my favourite desert though 😁.

    1. That seems to be the height of love when you get to a certain age, Priscilla 😂. My wife and I seem to practice the art most nights in front of the television. Glad you enjoyed the poem.

    2. So beautiful Dave – one of my favourites and very appropriate. Angel Delight though? One spoon is enough 🤢 😂😂
