To Autumn

Autumn seems to have crept in through a back door, the meteorological one at least. Astronomical autumn comes with the autumnal equinox on Friday the 23rd of September in the UK. I can warm myself with the thought that there are still three weeks of summer to go. (Iโ€™m living with the astronomical calendar until then.)

Due to the hot summer, some trees think autumn is already here. Carpets of brown leaves have started to cover footpaths and pavements, a stress response to the extreme temperatures we experienced. On a positive note, shades of green have started to appear on desertscape gardens and grass is growing once again between drought resistant weeds. ย

It feels good to be back at my writing desk and getting some thoughts down on paper. I decided to have a break from mid-August and spend some quality time with family and friends. (A small gallery of holiday views above.) Getting the new radio show together has also taken up time. (The first show airs tonight at 10pm GMT on Northern Quarter Radio.) I also celebrated my 60th birthday earlier this week, something else which crept up unnoticed.

I will be spending the next few days catching up on the posts I have missed and getting back into the writing flow. In the meantime, here is a short autumn poem, Autumn Leaves, from my poetry collection, All Mine.

Have a great weekend

    1. Thanks, Priscilla. We still have hosepipe bans and a declared drought over here. Rain forecast over the next few days. I took the storm picture with my iPhone. It came out better than it looked. Have a good weekend.

    1. Thank you, Terveen. That is most kind and appreciated. I still can’t get used to the number though ๐Ÿ˜‚ Glad you enjoyed the poem. Have a good weekend.

    1. Thank you for your kind words, Diana, they are most appreciated. I think autumn is my favourite season. I was lucky enough to spend some time in New England during the Fall and I still have fond memories of that time.
