Song

One line echoing around walls, gathering more intensity on any given morning. The robin seems to sit higher in the tree, a sense of smallness emanating through a higher shrill. Do you remember the first record you ever bought? Or the first song you learned every word of? Life on Mars takes me back to that child sat on a cold kerbstone, holding a copy of NME like newfound treasure. I kick off my killer heels and pretend the carpet is a sun-soaked beach in Ibiza, or a lake of beer at a favourite nightclub; and get so hot I ditch the Terry Towelling t-shirt and dance, imagining all the strands of the past woven into one.

  1. Music can do that to you. So much nostalgia attached. And the rhythms and beats of youth are never to be confused with madness. If you don’t dance till you drop or daydream like you’re melting, then it’s not the music that grips your soul. Thanks for bringing back memories, Davy. πŸ™‚

    1. ‘Daydream like your melting.’ I love that phrase, Terveen. I think without music I would have no soul. It’s funny how the music of our youth can bring back particular memories. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

  2. I have been listening to songs from my youth lately too. The songs bring back memories. Maybe it’s my age, but the music is a connection to the past and those who are no longer here. The songs we loved growing up are much like the soundtrack to our life.

    1. That is so true, Diana. I wonder why we keep going back to those songs from childhood. They seem to have more of an impact than at any other stage of our life. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

    1. A great song to kick off any singing career, Priscilla. A lot of singers have covered this but I still love the original by B.J. Thomas. That’s my earworm sorted for today.πŸ˜‚ Thank you for taking time out to read and comment. It is appreciated.

    1. Thank you. I am like you; the Beatles lyrics always tempted me more than their music. ‘I am the Walrus,’ springs to mind. Some of their later stuff could pass as poetry.
